DIOCESAN HEALTH SERVICES

Diocesan Target - Level 3.2 - Diocesan Health Service

By December 2020, we the members of the Diocesan Health Service with other Services in Daru-Kiunga Diocese and in partnership with other organizations have discovered the demands of faith. We have allowed the life and teachings of Jesus to enlighten our faith as HIS DISCIPLES and this has transformed our relationships with Jesus as his friends, trusting God, caring for people and nature, and committing ourselves to our mission as Jesus was to his. Our faith in Jesus has moved us to reach out to the rural majority and the urban disadvantaged communities through our healing ministry. This was achieved through planned and programmed activities.

Rationale (Reasons)

SITUATION

We are living in a society with people of different background, denomination, ideas and personalities. There are also many situations that are not life-giving and block our growth. Our faith is often not strong and we can be pulled out easily by others to follow them in their ideas. Some persons living with HIV/AIDS left their medicine due to this pressure and lack of faith that God can heal through the medicine with love and care. Some groups of people discriminate against the people living with HIV/AIDS. Many persons do not accept the reality of HIV/AIDS and blame this condition on evil spirits.

IDEAL

The staff of the HIV/AIDS Service believes that everything we do becomes life-giving, following the example and teaching of Jesus who came to bring healing and fullness of Life. We live and work in an atmosphere of peace, trust and joy. All the people that we serve recognize the power of Jesus which is present in the medicine, the love and care that we give to them. People come to us because of their belief that we bring Jesus’ healing to them. As followers of Jesus, we reach out to the remote areas to witness to our faith in action.

Diocesan Target - Level 3.3 - Diocesan Callan Services

By December 2020, persons with disabilities, their parents, caregivers and the personnel of Callan Services in partnership with stakeholders have discovered the demands of faith by reaching out to attend to Christ who is present in the needy. We have allowed the life, ways and teachings of Jesus to transform and touch our hearts through having better relationships with God, people and the world around us in a new way. AS DISCIPLES OF JESUS, we have worked to achieve this through our commitment to serve in compassion, justice and respect as we witness to our faith through full participation in the activities and programs.

Rationale (Reasons)

SITUATION

As we have just ended Phase One of Stage Two of our Journey of faith, we have discovered the power of the Word of God in the Bible which gives us strength and guidance. We have experienced challenges and successes in the delivery of our services. There are achievements in participation and acceptance of people with disabilities amongst themselves, by family members, and in the communities. There is less talks on negative traditional beliefs or discrimination. This service provides opportunities for them and they are becoming more aware of their rights and are proud of their contributions. Ongoing formation in delivering quality service is still inadequate. There is lack of spiritual guidance provided to our client to live their faith in following the way of Jesus.

IDEAL

As we walk our journey of faith, we acknowledge the presence and express the liberating heart of God and are strengthened by the teachings, life and values of Jesus to transform our relationships with God, people and nature as we witness to our faith. We have been evangelized in order to live our faith as Melanesians in the actions of our everyday lives. We are guided and equipped with knowledge and skills that enable us to offer quality services with compassion, justice and respect to everyone without exception. As members of a Small Christian Community, we help each other to respond positively in finding meaning, direction and good values to hold on to.

CONVERSION
  • From always following the same ways of offering our services to being creative and finding new ways to make it more life-giving and also make use of moments when people gather together to evangelize and deliver quality service.
  • From lack of spiritual guidance to providing support as we witness to our faith in transforming our relationships with God, people and nature.
  • From being confused about the worries of life to being better members of a Small Christian Community where we are enlightened by the teachings, life and values of Jesus in following his ways in responding positively to the many social issues affecting our lives.

By December 2020, we, the HIV/AIDS Service, the persons living with HIV/AIDS, all our trained personnel, our friends and the communities we serve as "DISCIPLES OF JESUS", have promoted and lived the theme of "DISCOVERING THE DEMANDS OF FAITH" by allowing the life and teaching of Jesus to touch our hearts, to transform our relationships with God, people and the world around us.
