Linking our past and present

We inherit things from the past, its history and its stories. At this time, what's happening in Papua New Guinea (PNG)? The second and possibly the third generation of missionaries are here. The present generation of Montfortians comes from India and Indonesia with our bishop, Msgr. Gilles Côté, and a priest of a venerable age from Quebec, Richard Larouche. They also have the help of a few Lazarists and some local diocesan priests. "What a family!" The brothers of St. Gabriel, at Boy's Town, are Indian and the Wisdom Girls, grouped around Kiunga and Matkomnai, besides many missionary activities, work to create a community of Sisters from PNG. Since early childhood, during my 12 years of schooling with the Daughters of Wisdom, and after hearing stories from missionaries coming home on leave, the desire to become a missionary in a far away country grew in me. In 1959 the Montfort Missionaries went to PNG. I had also heard that the Daughters of Wisdom would follow soon, so I decided to become one of them and realize my dream.
